Sadly, Mayor Willie Oswalt passed away early Saturday morning.

He began his political career in 1974 when he ran for and won election as a City Council member for the City of Lake City. He would serve in that capacity until 1987 when he was elected Mayor of the City of Lake City.

The Mayor served on numerous boards including the Atlanta Regional Commission, The Clayton County Meals on Wheels, and the President of the 2002 Clayton County Municipal Association. The Clayton County Chamber of Commerce honored him in 2010 by awarding him the "Lifetime Achievement Award".

Governor Roy Barnes named Mayor Oswalt as a Honorary Lieutenant Colonel, Aide De Camp to the Governor in 1999. He was a husband, father, grandfather and a mentor to many. He will be missed.

Arrangements are as follows:

Visitation will be Tuesday February 13 from 5-8 PM at Scrogg Funeral Home in Morrow (6362 S Lee St, Morrow, GA 30260).

Funeral services will be Wednesday February 14 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro (142 College St, Jonesboro, GA 30236) in the Worship Center.

Internment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Salvation Army or the Wounded Warrior Project.
