If you are not required to appear in court and choose not to appear, you must pay your citation by the last business day prior to the scheduled court date (4:30 PM in person or 11:59 PM online). Payments cannot be made on the day of court until you have been seen by the Judge and a plea has been entered on the case.
The court no longer processes faxed information. Any faxed documents will be held but not considered submitted or official until the original documents are received. The court must have the original documentation in order to take any action or process any motions.
Court dates may be continued by court personnel only once. Please note that any additional continuances must be granted by the judge on the scheduled court date. Continuance requests must be made before 12:00 PM on the last business day prior to the scheduled court date for arraignment court and no later than 5 business days prior to the scheduled court date for trial court. All continuance requests on the day of court must be granted by the judge in court.
You must appear on your arraignment date, which is shown on the citation. A trial will be scheduled at that time. All motions for jury trials and/or Indigent Defense representation require a court appearance.
If you have not paid your fine before the scheduled court date and fail to appear or are late for a scheduled court appearance, your fine will be increased for a contempt of court charge. The increased amount is at the sole discretion of the presiding judge. Failing to appear may also result in a bench warrant being issued for your arrest and/or a suspension of your Georgia driving privileges. In order to get your case rescheduled, after a failure to appear, you may be required to pay the contempt of court fee assessed by the judge.
The Judge will not discuss pending cases outside of the court room, through the mail, by email or over the phone. Any request for a private discussion must be made on your assigned day of court and will take place either at the Judge’s bench or in the judge’s chambers at the discretion of the judge.
There is a prosecutor/solicitor available during arraignment and trial courts. All requests to speak with the prosecutor must be done in person on the day of court.
